Classical Academy – Permian Basin Teacher Samantha Garcia
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Midland and graduated from the University of Texas – Permian Basin. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2021 and teach Third Grade at Classical Academy – Permian Basin.
What inspired you to become an educator?
Growing up, I often watched my younger sister struggle with different subjects in school. I always enjoyed finding new ways to explain concepts to help her overcome those struggles. From homework to studying for tests, I felt like a teacher. After accepting my first job, I realized I enjoyed training and developing employees more than other aspects of the job. This realization was the deciding factor for me to go back to school and pursue teaching.ย
What are some things that your students have taught you?
Initially, I felt overwhelmed at the idea of leading a classroom because I believed I had to possess all the answers for my students. However, they have taught me the importance of embracing mistakes, sharing them openly, and illustrating the ongoing learning process. Every day, I aim to teach my students that pursuing knowledge is non-stop and that they should always seek opportunities to learn something new.
What are you most proud of about your time with Classical Academy – Permian Basin?
I am proud to work for a school that supports teachers and works to create a safe environment where character and valuable life lessons get promoted. Working at my campus has changed my mindset on student development and allowed me to continue to learn what it means to be a classical teacher, which I am so grateful for.ย
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I enjoy the close-knit environment that comes with working for ResponsiveEd. I feel close to my coworkers and students, and I am grateful to be part of a community with a shared vision for the education and growth of our students.
