Mixa participates in the Simone Biles International Invitation in Houston

We are excited to welcome back iSchool Virtual Academy (iSVA) Communication & Relationships Manager Genavieve Meyer as a special guest contributor for this story. Genavieve plays an instrumental role in highlighting the connections and overwhelming success of the iSVA community. Here, she helps us share the story of sixth-grade student Karlie Mixa.

Karlie is proving that dedication and hard work can make dreams a reality. A sixth-grade student at iSVA, Karlie thrives in the online learning environment, balancing academics with her personal life. As a competitive gymnast for the past three years, she enjoys the flexibility iSVA provides, allowing her to pursue her goals.

Karlie’s commitment to gymnastics is nothing short of inspiring. She trains four to five hours a day, four days a week, all while excelling in school. Beyond gymnastics, she actively participates in 4-H, a youth development program that fosters leadership, responsibility, and essential life skills through hands-on projects.

Through iSVA’s self-paced curriculum, she can successfully manage her coursework while staying committed to her craft and connecting with her community.

Her hard work recently paid off at the Galveston Winter Island Beach Blast Invitational in January, where she placed 1st on Beam, 4th on Uneven Bars, and 4th All-Around, earning a spot at the State Championship. Karlie then competed at her first international meet, the Biles Invitational in Houston, delivering another outstanding performance.

Beyond academics and athletics, Karlie has formed meaningful connections with the staff and her peers at iSVA.“The personalized support at iSVA has made a significant impact on her confidence and success,” said Karlie’s mother. “The school has created such a nurturing environment for all students, and we look forward to seeing her continue to thrive in the coming years!”
