At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Liliana Vasquez, who teaches K-6th grade at Westchase Neighborhood School.

Tell Us About Yourself

I graduated from Southwestern Adventist University in 2019 with a degree in Kinesiology. During my time in school, I took several Physical Education classes along with education classes and loved finding ways to combine the two fields. I have always had a passion for Art and was fortunate to start as the PE and Art teacher at Westchase Neighborhood School.

What inspired you to become an educator?

My elementary PE teacher, Mr. Brown, inspired me to want to become a teacher. He opened a new door for me and motivated us students to exercise in fun ways. He truly loved what he did, and because of his example, I love sharing those same passions with my students!

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My students have taught me that “it doesn’t have to be perfect as long as you try your best.” I enjoy watching all my students embrace their creative sides and express themselves through the art they create.

What are you most proud of about your time at Westchase Neighborhood School?

I am most proud of the relationships I have built with my students. Each one is unique and special in their own way and I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to watch them grow into successful individuals.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I love the family environment at Westchase Neighborhood School. Every faculty and staff member shares the same values, and all work together to help our students find success.

What is a memorable moment you can share from the classroom?

Last school year, students in grades 5-8 did not have an Art program, and they often expressed to me how unhappy they were about it. However, the school decided to introduce an Art Club during the spring semester. They were ecstatic, and we had so much fun creating each project!
