At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Britney Hensley who teaches a Patient Care Technician course as part of Premier High School – Texarkana’s career and technical education (CTE) opportunities.

Premier High School – Texarkana Teacher Britney Hensley

Tell Us About Yourself

I am originally from Texarkana, Arkansas, and graduated from Capella University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2020 and teach a Patient Care Technician course and Career and Technical Education courses at Premier High School – Texarkana. In addition to teaching, I also work as a full-time nurse in the emergency department at a local hospital.

What inspired you to become an educator?

Teaching is an extension of my love for nursing. It is so encouraging to witness my students have those “ah-ha” moments and their sense of accomplishment when they overcome a challenge in the classroom. The opportunity to help teach them skills they can apply to the real world is incredibly rewarding.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My experience as a teacher has taught me that learning is not a linear process. Every student moves at their own pace and learns with a different learning style. I have learned to adapt to different situations and find comfort in change.

What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – Texarkana?

I am most proud of the personal and professional growth I have experienced as a teacher that has come with being encouraged to step out of my comfort zone.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I love that the entire staff works together to build a strong campus community. Because of everyone’s hard work and dedication, we can provide more opportunities for CTE courses and host different campus events for our students.

What is a memorable moment you can share from the classroom?

This school year, we had so many students who wanted to participate in our health sciences programs that we did not have enough chairs to accommodate everyone. We had to bring in extra chairs so everyone could have a place to sit.
