As a lifelong educator, Julia West was eager to share her lifelong passion for learning with others. While homeschooling her three sons, Jadon, Jackson, and Jenner, for several years, she noticed a new school construction in her Houston area neighborhood. In the fall of 2011, her oldest son, Jadon, enrolled at iSchool High at University Park, with his two brothers later following suit.
After stepping away from the classroom to raise her children several years earlier, Julia became eager to get involved with the new school. Shortly after enrolling her sons, she volunteered with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), becoming its first PTO president. She held this role until 2016 before joining the campus faculty as a mathematics teacher.
“I view my children’s success as a testament to the early college program and the hard work of the faculty and staff,” said Julia. “Not only did their time at iSchool provide them with the tools they needed to continue their education, but it also has taught them valuable life skills and has prepared them for successful careers.”
Jadon graduated from iSchool in 2016 with 40 college credit hours from campus dual-credit partner Lone Star College. He attended Texas A&M University, earning a degree in electrical engineering and a minor in physics. Today, he works as a subcontractor on the NASA Lunar Space Station project.
Jackson graduated in 2018 with over 60 college credit hours. He pursued a double major in computer science and mathematics at Texas A&M and is currently working towards a PhD in mathematics at New Mexico State University.
Following his brother’s footsteps, youngest brother Jenner graduated in 2020, earning his associate degree while attending iSchool and being named the class Salutatorian. After graduating from Texas A&M this past fall with a degree in biomedical sciences, he plans to apply to medical school.
As Julia continues to inspire the next generation of learners at iSchool High, her passion for learning and unwavering support of her sons through their academic journeys serve as an inspiration for students and families alike. The West family’s story is a testament to the power of education and the endless possibilities that iSchool High at University Park offers its students.
