Students connected with local employers, colleges, and military representatives to explore career pathways and gain valuable insight into their futures.

Students at Premier High School (PHS) and TexasWorks (TXW) – Longview took an exciting step toward planning their futures during a campus-wide Career Fair on October 8, 2026. The event brought together representatives from higher education institutions, military branches, law enforcement, and local businesses, providing students with an opportunity to explore a variety of educational and professional pathways.

With recruitment support from the Texas Workforce Commission–East Texas, the event was designed to introduce students to opportunities available beyond the classroom while helping them make meaningful connections with professionals in their community.

Participating organizations included the Kilgore College Barber and Cosmetology Program, Longview Police Department, Texas State Technical College, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, and local healthcare businesses. Throughout the event, students engaged in hands-on demonstrations, learned about educational and training requirements, and spoke directly with representatives about potential career opportunities.

From discovering careers in healthcare and public service to learning about technical certifications, skilled trades, and military service, students gained firsthand insight into the many directions their futures could take.

“Our goal is to ensure that every student who walks through our doors understands that there are multiple pathways to a successful and fulfilling future,” said campus teacher Eveonne Miles. “Events like this give our students the chance to explore opportunities they may not have previously considered, ask meaningful questions, and begin building connections that can help them take their next steps with confidence. We are incredibly grateful to our community partners for investing their time in our students.”

Connecting Classroom Learning to Real-World Opportunities

At Premier High School and TexasWorks, preparing students for success extends beyond earning a high school diploma. Both programs emphasize flexible, individualized educational opportunities that help students pursue their academic goals while preparing for college, career training, or entry into the workforce.

For Premier High School students, the Career Fair provided an opportunity to explore potential next steps after graduation, including higher education, technical training, and direct entry into the workforce.

For TexasWorks students, the event reinforced the importance of connecting academic achievement with career advancement, highlighting opportunities to pursue additional training, develop marketable skills, and work toward long-term professional goals.

By bringing employers, educational institutions, and community organizations directly to campus, the event helped make these possibilities more accessible and tangible for students.

“One of the most important things we can do as educators is help students recognize the opportunities available to them and understand how their education connects to their future goals,” said Sabina Landeros, Regional Director. “Premier High School and TexasWorks are committed to meeting students where they are and helping them build a pathway forward. This Career Fair is a wonderful example of how partnerships with local employers, colleges, and workforce organizations can empower students to make informed decisions about their futures.”

Building Stronger Connections Within the Longview Community

The success of the Career Fair also highlighted the important role community partnerships play in expanding opportunities for students.

Through the support of the Texas Workforce Commission–East Texas and participating organizations, students were able to engage directly with professionals who offered insight into their respective industries, shared information about training and educational programs, and answered questions about what it takes to succeed in different career fields.

These interactions not only provided students with valuable information but also helped them begin developing professional connections within the greater Longview community.

Premier High School and TexasWorks – Longview extend their sincere appreciation to the Texas Workforce Commission–East Texas, all participating organizations, and the campus team whose efforts helped make the event possible.

By continuing to create opportunities that connect education with real-world experiences, Premier High School and TexasWorks Longview remain committed to helping students discover their potential, pursue their ambitions, and take meaningful steps toward a successful future.
