Teacher Spotlight: Melanie Oprea

This week, we sat down with Melanie Oprea, who teaches Kindergarten at Founders Classical Academy – Leander.

Tell Us About Yourself

I am originally from Flower Mound, Texas, and graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, I earned my ESL certification and began teaching Kindergarten for Denton ISD. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2023 and teach Kindergarten at Founders Classical Academy – Leander. 

What inspired you to become an educator?

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl, playing “school” with my sisters and friends. I was fortunate to have had such inspiring teachers in my life, and I find joy in playing that role in my students’ lives. 

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My students have shown me the value of courage, asking for help, and facing tough questions. They have helped me learn to appreciate life’s small joys and let my imagination run free. Most importantly, I’ve learned the importance of truly knowing my students – so I can best meet their academic needs and support them in the classroom. 

What are you most proud of about your time with Founders Classical Academy – Leander?

I am most proud of the personal and professional growth I have experienced as a teacher at my campus. 

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

My favorite thing about ResponsiveEd is working alongside educators who work to support our families and foster a love of learning in this next generation of students.
