At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Laura Segundo, who teaches Career and Technical Education and Title 1 courses at Premier High School – Laredo.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Laredo and graduated from Texas A&M International University with a bachelor’s in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2008 and currently serve as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Title 1 teacher for grades 9-12 and English II STAAR EOC Interventionist at Premier High School – Laredo.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I became an educator because I wanted to be among those developing lifelong learners. Like many other people, I had a teacher who taught me to keep learning, and I strive to be that teacher for my students. I want them to love learning and know that it is never too late to learn something new.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me the importance of establishing and cultivating relationships. It is critical that my students feel seen and heard. I am proud that my classroom is a safe space where students can celebrate their accomplishments and be there for each other during the tough moments.
What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – Laredo?
I am proud that I can be the person that my students can come to for support. Seeing them work hard throughout the year to overcome personal and academic struggles and accomplish their goals always makes me so proud.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I love working for ResponsiveEd because of the supportive campus leadership who genuinely cares about me as a person and my professional growth. I am grateful for my campus director and team, who inspire me daily to do my very best for my students.
