At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Kandace Reese, who teaches science and social studies at Ignite Community School – Mainland.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in La Marque, Texas, and graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2015 and teach third and fourth-grade Science and Social Studies at Ignite Community School – Mainland.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I have always been passionate about education and admired all of my teachers growing up. My teachers always inspired and encouraged me to be the best person I could be. Because of their examples, I strive to show my students that they can do anything they set their minds to and want them to know they are greater than their obstacles.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me that relationships matter. It is very important to me that I build strong relationships with my students and that they know I am here to support and cheer them on. They have also taught me the importance of self-expression in the classroom. I try my best every day to create a positive environment where my students feel safe and respected.
What are you most proud of about your time with Ignite Community School – Mainland?
I am very proud of my educational growth during my time at Ignite Community School. I am grateful to be a member of a group that supports our teachers and provides feedback and opportunities for us to grow as educators.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I enjoy the leadership and guidance that the head administration team provides. They are consistently offering support and encouraging us throughout the year so that we can help our students succeed.
What is a memorable moment you can share from the classroom?
I started at Ignite Community School – Mainland as the campus librarian. As I’ve taken on different roles on campus, It has been extremely rewarding to see the school grow and see students graduate and have their children attend and get educated under the same roof they once did.
