A unique aspect of our Premier High School and TexasWorks campuses is the Career and Technical Education (CTE) options. Through these options, students receive job training, have opportunities to participate in paid or unpaid internships, receive industry-recognized certifications, and begin meaningful careers after graduation. In honor of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, we talked to our Premier High School – Fort Worth (Jacksboro), Lubbock (Briercroft), Houston (Gallery Furniture North), and TexasWorks – Lubbock (Briercroft) and Houston (Gallery Furniture North) about their CTE offerings in the medical field.

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) programs prepare students to become future health professionals who support physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other medical providers in different specialties. Throughout the program, students learn to obtain and record health histories and vital signs and, in some cases, may test vision, draw blood, and perform basic laboratory procedures. Upon completion, students can earn an industry-recognized certification as a medical assistant, allowing them to enter the workforce immediately after graduation or continue their education in the medical field.

“The Medical Assistant program has allowed me to explore the medical field while equipping me with the academic and technical skills needed to enter the workforce after graduation,” said Premier High School – Fort Worth (Jacksboro) student Brianna Perez. “Thanks to the CMA program, I am graduating with a high school diploma and a certification, giving me a head start in my career and life.”

Why Career and Technical Education (CTE)? While earning their diploma, students can begin training for a career. CTE gives students the skills and training to further their education and pursue meaningful careers in high-demand professions.
