Galiana Guzman, a senior at Premier High School – Houston (Champions), embodies the spirit of service inspired by her military family. Her mother, a Major in the United States Army, and father, a Navy veteran, raised Galiana to understand the importance of duty, honor, and service. From an early age, she dreamed of following in their footsteps and one day serving her country.
Like many young adults, Galiana aspired to join an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program to prepare herself for a career in the armed forces while also pursuing a college degree. After applying to several ROTC programs nationwide, her hard work and dedication paid off, and she ultimately received acceptance letters from prestigious institutions such as Texas A&M University, Georgetown University, American University, and Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Recently, she announced her decision to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth this fall. Additionally, Galiana received the SORD scholarship—a full-ride ROTC scholarship awarded to individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to military service. In exchange, Galiana has committed to joining the Horned Frog Battalion at Texas Christian University, where she will undergo rigorous ROTC training while pursuing her college degree. Upon graduation, she will commit to serving eight years of active duty in the United States Army as a commissioned officer.
