Bastrop, Texas – Founders Classical Academy – Bastrop, a tuition-free public charter school serving grades K-11, celebrated the opening of its new campus building on October 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 415 Shiloh Road. The event brought together community members, special guests Texas State Representative Stan Gerdes, and Bastrop Chamber of Commerce representatives, including President and CEO Becki Womble. Faculty, staff, students, and families gathered to commemorate this exciting milestone.
The new building is thoughtfully designed to enrich students’ learning experience, featuring additional classrooms, dedicated spaces for extracurricular activities, and expansive outdoor areas for sports and learning. These resources align with the campus mission of nurturing both the minds and character of students through a curriculum rooted in the liberal arts and classical virtues.
Headmaster Stephanie Thomas expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community and shared her enthusiasm for the future. “This moment marks the culmination of hard work, dedication, and collaboration by our incredible team of educators, administrators, staff, and families,” said Thomas. “This campus offers our students an incredible opportunity to grow in an environment that fully supports our commitment to rigorous classical education. We’re excited for the many successful years ahead.”
Melanie Sharpless, Director of Operations, highlighted the broader significance of the event. “Today isn’t just about a new building—it’s about the start of an exciting chapter for our Bastrop families. Our students are on a path to becoming thoughtful, virtuous citizens, ready to make meaningful contributions to society, and this new campus building is just the beginning of all we’ll accomplish together.”
The event underscored the collaboration between the school, local leaders, and the community in bringing quality classical education to Bastrop. Michael Terry, Superintendent of Founders Classical Academies, emphasized this importance. “Bringing classical education to Bastrop has been an important mission for us,” said Terry. “This new building represents our continued commitment to offering families a rigorous education grounded in timeless virtues. We are thrilled to see the impact it is already having on our students and the broader Bastrop community.”
