A unique aspect of several of our ResponsiveEd campuses is the Career and Technical Education (CTE) options. Through these options, students receive job training, have opportunities to participate in paid or unpaid internships, receive industry-recognized certifications, and begin meaningful careers after high school. In honor of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, we talked to our iSchool of Lewisville (7-12 Campus) about its CTE pathway in engineering.

2021-2022 NASA HUNCH Finalists

The campus Engineering pathway utilizes the Project Lead the Way curriculum, taking students through coursework that includes Principles of Applied Engineering, Engineering Essentials, and Engineering Design and Development.  Upon completion, students receive an industry-level certification in Solidworks and the opportunity to participate in a senior practicum with the NASA HUNCH program, where students present innovative solutions to real-life situations posed by the International Space Station.

“Our main goal with our CTE pathways at iSchool of Lewisville is to provide students with the knowledge and tools necessary to compete in the workforce as soon as they graduate high school,” said campus Dean of Academics Michael Kunkel. “These tools include not only the knowledge from the coursework, and the experience earned from collaborating with their peers, but an industry level certification, usually not obtained until two years post-secondary school.”

Why Career and Technical Education (CTE)? Students can begin training for a career while earning their high school diploma. CTE gives students the skills and training to further their education and pursue meaningful careers in high-demand professions.
