At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Norma Rodriguez, who teaches U.S. History at Premier High School – San Juan.

Tell Us About Yourself

I was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and grew up in Donna, Texas. I hold a bachelorโ€™s degree in Spanish Linguistics and a masterโ€™s in Spanish from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. During graduate school, I had the opportunity to work alongside my professors on the CoViBa Project, where we collected authentic language recordings and transcripts to preserve the linguistic heritage of our region. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2022 and teach U.S. History at Premier High School – San Juan.

What inspired you to become an educator?

My mother inspired me to become an educator. Despite never having attended a formal school, she always emphasized the importance and power of education.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My students have shown me it is never too late to achieve your goals. They inspire me daily with their dedication, coming to class ready to learn and refusing to let their challenges stand in their way.

What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – San Juan?

I am most proud of the Class of 2024. One of my students was the salutatorian of her class, and I feel honored to have played a part in her education and success.ย

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I love the close-knit atmosphere of our campus. Knowing each student by name and collaborating with such talented educators and supportive administrators are why I love coming to work every day.
