Tell Us About Yourself

I am from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. I began my career as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional before transitioning to full-time teaching. Over the years, I have taught Math for grades 4-8 and have been nominated for Teacher of the Month by my colleagues every year since 2019. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2016 as the Physical Education teacher at Ignite Community School – Garland.ย

What inspired you to become an educator?

I was inspired to become an educator after tutoring a group of high school baseball players from my hometown. Witnessing their improvement, their parents recommended me to the school staff and suggested I consider a career in teaching. I then worked as a paraprofessional and continued to work my way into a full-time teaching position.ย

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My students have taught me the importance of listening to others. It’s easy to offer opinions or corrections. However, as an educator, I strive to actively listen to my students, ensuring they know they are heard and that their feelings, opinions, and thoughts matter.

What are you most proud of about your time with Ignite Community School – Garland?

I am most proud that even after eight years with ResponsiveEd, I am still able to grow as an individual and educator.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

One of my favorite aspects of ResponsiveEd is that everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow. I feel fortunate to have such supportive colleagues dedicated to seeing each person thrive and get rewarded for their hard work.
