At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Amanda Barnett, who teaches History and Latin at Founders Classical Academy – Bastrop

Tell Us About Yourself

I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and graduated from Texas State University – San Marcos with a double major in History and Anthropology. As a student, I studied at an archaeological field school in Belize, leading me to work as an Archaeological Field Technician in Lima, Peru. I joined ResponsiveEd in August of 2022 and teach History and Latin at Founders Classical Academy – Bastrop

What inspired you to become an educator?

I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by educators who are passionate about the subjects they teach and who inspired me to pursue a career in education. ResponsiveEd’s values and classical approach to education have only continued to encourage me to want to help educate the next generation of students and share my love and knowledge with them.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

One of my biggest takeaways from my students is that learning is not always linear. There is no better feeling than a former student later sharing how much they learned from you. It can often feel like we make very little progress, and we rarely see the fruit of our labor in the exact moment, but the seeds we plant take root and flourish in time.

What are you most proud of about your time with Founders Classical Academy – Bastrop?

I am proud to be part of an organization that brings classical education to all corners of the state. Throughout my time at the campus, I have seen firsthand how our school impacts the community.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I appreciate the unique curriculum we provide to our students. I am also extremely grateful for the Founders Teacher Institute, my mentor teacher, and the ability to collaborate with other teachers on our subject areas across campuses.
