TexasWorks is reshaping adult education by offering students a unique blend of educational opportunities and support services. The tuition-free diploma and career certification program provides adults ages 18-50 the chance to reclaim their future by earning a high school diploma, a career certificate, and a direct pipeline to employment while breaking down barriers for those looking to balance the demands of parenting and schooling with resources like on-site childcare.

TexasWorks – Brownsville is one of the first TexasWorks locations to roll out this valuable resource, helping its adult learners pursue their academic and career goals with confidence and peace of mind. The campus Parents-on-Premises (P.O.P.) Program accommodates children as young as three months up to three years old and is a free resource available only to enrolled TexasWorks students. Conveniently located in the same building, the childcare program offers up to 15 hours of care per week, allowing parents to focus entirely on their studies while having the ability to check on their children between classes.

“The addition of on-site childcare has had a tremendous impact on our students,” said Campus Director Maria Alvarado. “We are thrilled to be able to provide such a valuable resource for our students and are grateful for the opportunity to help them reach their goals.”

Additionally, TexasWorks – Brownsville is dedicated to empowering its students through a mastery-based program and flexible schedules that are sure to meet the needs of every adult.  Like other TexasWorks programs across the state, those enrolled have access to several career and technical education (CTE) courses, including certified medical assistant and welding, equipping them with skills needed to work in high-demand fields. These programs provide hands-on experience while preparing students for fulfilling careers, leading to lasting financial stability.

“By removing barriers to education, we are creating a supportive environment where students can take control of their future while continuing to care for their families,” said Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Camarena. “We are proud to offer this resource for our students and look forward to expanding childcare services to even more TexasWorks campuses.”

The pioneering spirit at TexasWorks – Brownsville highlights its commitment to addressing the real-life challenges for adult learners and ensuring they have the support they need to succeed in their educational and career journeys.
