TexasWorks – Laredo celebrates its launch with the community.

Community leaders, educators, and students gathered for the official ribbon cutting of TexasWorks – Laredo, a tuition-free public charter school and adult education program designed to empower adults ages 18-50. The November 15 event drew a crowd of local leaders, educators, and the Laredo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce who gathered to support and honor the program’s mission of providing flexible and supportive education options for adult learners.

The ceremony featured community members, including Mike Marasco and Attorney Joey Tellez, who expressed their enthusiasm for the program’s mission to provide career certifications and high school diplomas. The event also included inspiring stories from students, who shared how TexasWorks has already begun transforming their lives.

“TexasWorks is a life-changing educational opportunity for adults in our community,” said Campus Director Veronica Khan. “It is a pathway to meaningful careers through hands-on training and certifications that will empower adult learners to succeed in today’s workforce.”

“Today’s ribbon cutting is just the beginning of a remarkable journey.”

Regional Director Julianna Lopez echoed the program’s mission, saying, “Whether you’re balancing work, family, or other responsibilities, this program offers the chance to pursue both education and certification on a schedule that works for you,” said Lopez. “With career and technical education programs built right in, our students will not only graduate with a diploma but also with the practical skills they need to step into high-demand industries.”

Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Camarena shared her gratitude and vision for the program, stating, “It is a true honor to stand among so many inspiring individuals who share a common goal: empowering adults across Texas, especially right here in our community, to achieve more, fulfill their potential, and help shape a brighter future for Laredo.”

Students also took center stage during the event, sharing emotional testimonials about their experiences with TexasWorks. One student shared their appreciation for the opportunity to complete their education and pursue a fulfilling career, expressing gratitude for the possibilities TexasWorks has provided.
