At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Sheila Glasscock, who teaches high school English Literature, Moral Philosophy, and Creative Writing at Founders Classical Academy – West Little Rock.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Arkansas and graduated from Henderson State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech/Communications and Drama before receiving my Master’s from The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2021.
What inspired you to become an educator?
Like many people, I had several teachers who helped me find success. One English teacher, in particular, left a lasting impression on me. She helped me understand the importance of education and a teacher’s impact on their students. Because of her, I have always wanted to give others what I was so fortunate to receive.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me the true meaning of humility. When I think I have everything organized and figured out, they remind me that you are never too old to learn something new.
What are you most proud of about your time at Founders Classical Academy – West Little Rock?
I am most proud of bringing rigor to my classroom, which includes subject matter and real-life experience. We live in an increasingly complex world, and encouraging citizenship, moral fortitude, and thinking for oneself, is critical.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I truly enjoy the focus on character, civility, and responsibility that Founders Classical Academy provides. I am incredibly grateful to work alongside individuals who believe in these similar concepts and feel empowered to instill valuable lessons in our students.
