At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Patricia Edgel, who teaches grades 9-12 at Premier High School – Austin (South).

Tell Us About Yourself

I graduated from Texas State University after stepping back to raise my family. After graduation, I returned to college, received my master’s degree, and am pursuing my PhD. I have always loved learning and hope to infuse a passion for lifelong learning in my students. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2022 and teach grades 9-12 at Premier High School – Austin (South).

What inspired you to become an educator?

I had the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant in college and loved the connections I made with my students. It is a great feeling to see my students experience that “ah-ha” moment when they overcome a challenge in the classroom.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My students are remarkable examples of resilience and inspire me to do the same in my own life. Despite academic and personal challenges, they come to class ready to learn and persist in pursuing their diploma. They teach me grit and that nothing is impossible.

What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – Austin (South)?

I’m most proud of my efforts to help my students overcome any obstacles they might be facing. Sharing my life experiences and helping them see a vision and craft a plan for their future brings me so much joy.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

My favorite thing about working for ResponsiveEd is my colleagues. Every member of our team is dedicated to helping our students reach their goals and works to create a fun high school environment for them. It has been a great experience working alongside educators who go above and beyond to support each other.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself or your time providing hope for students?

Since the loss of our daughter, Arianne, this past January, my husband and I have been working to establish a memorial scholarship in her name, the Arianne Marie Edgel Memorial Scholarship, benefitting musical theater students at Texas State University. Arianne loved attending musicals on the Texas State campus, and the students there always embraced her like one of their own.

This scholarship is our way of honoring Arianne and giving back to those students who demonstrate an extraordinary spirit of kindness in the University’s musical theater program.
