At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Nicole Mathias, who teaches English, communications, graphic design, and college and career transitions at iSchool High – Atascocita.

Tell Us About Yourself

I am originally from New Jersey and earned a master’s in curriculum and instruction. I have spent the last 28 years teaching in New Jersey, Bermuda, and Houston. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2021 and teach English, communications, graphic design, and college and career transitions at iSchool High – Atascocita.

What inspired you to become an educator?

I have always had a love for learning. Throughout my life, I have had incredibly insightful teachers, and I try to model those whose passion helped me find my path and inspired me to pursue my passions.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My experience with students has taught me that there are infinite paths to learning. I am fortunate to be able to share my knowledge and play a small role in the lives of my students.

What are you most proud of about your time with iSchool High – Atascocita?

I created a direct-teach series of lessons called “Research Palooza” to help students improve their research and, most importantly, reading and writing skills. It is always so rewarding to see how many students it has helped get ahead.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I most appreciate the standards set for staff and students. I am also grateful iSchool’s personalized approach allows me to utilize my experience, support my students, and intervene when needed.
