At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Marilyn Fanus, who teaches first-grade English, Language Arts, Reading (ELAR), and Social Studies at Ignite Community School – Mainland.

Tell Us About Yourself

I was born and raised in Louisiana and have been an educator for over 25 years. I have been named Teacher of the Year and am a two-time recipient of the TEA Teacher Incentive Allotment. I joined ResponsiveEd 2015 and teach first-grade English, Language Arts, Reading (ELAR), and Social Studies.

What inspired you to become an educator?

My family noticed my passion for working with children early on and have supported that passion from day one. I credit them for continuously encouraging me to pursue a full-time career in education.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My students have taught me that the “one size fits all” approach does not apply in education. Each student is special and learns in their own unique way. As an educator, it is my responsibility to build relationships with each student and work with them to develop ways that will help them find success.

What are you most proud of about your time with Ignite Community School – Mainland?

I am most proud of my students for overcoming obstacles throughout the year and never giving up on reaching their goals.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I am grateful for all of the support I have received from our leadership team and fellow staff members. Together, we can help one another build a better future for our students.
