At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Denise Gonzalez, who teaches Kindergarten at Founders Classical Academy – Schertz.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in San Antonio. I graduated from St. Edward’s University in Austin with a Bachelorโs in English, Language Arts, and Reading and a minor in Elementary Education. Throughout my career, I have earned certifications in early childhood education and English as a Second Language. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2022 and teach Kindergarten at Founders Classical Academy – Schertz.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Like many people, I had multiple educators who impacted my life and helped shape me into who I am today. All my teachers believed in me until I believed in myself, which is where my passion stems.
As a mom, I see my own children in my students. My heart wants to teach every child who walks into my classroom the same way I would hope my children are taught.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me that every day is an opportunity to learn something new, regardless of how old we are. They have also shown me that the best way to lead and guide someone is through example; therefore, I am always working on improving not only my instruction but also myself.ย
What are you most proud of about your time with Founders Classical Academy – Schertz?
I am most proud of the opportunity to work with many dedicated professionals who genuinely care and support one another. From the administrators and teacher assistants to the custodial and cafeteria staff, everyone works to create a learning community where educators, students, and all faculty are supported.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I really admire the foundation that Founders Classical Academy instills in our scholars. It is a foundation of not only academics but of virtues. Our scholars know that in our classrooms, they have a safe place to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow together as a community.
