At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Dan Johnston, who teaches biology at Premier High School – Dayton.
Tell Us About Yourself
I graduated from Texas State University. This is my first year at ResponsiveEd, and I teach 11th grade at Premier High School – Dayton.
What inspired you to become an educator?
While working as a drill instructor at a juvenile boot camp, I learned how to build people up and teach them how to work as a team to achieve their goals. Helping people discover their strengths and capabilities helped me realize my love for education and inspired me to want to transition into the classroom.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
They have taught me how to reframe the way we look at our mistakes. By looking at mistakes as learning opportunities, we can grow and become better people. They also remind me that we all have our own unique set of talents, and our worth is not measured academically.
What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – Dayton?
I am most proud of the bonds I have created with my team thus far. We all work together to create a fun and welcoming learning environment for our students.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
My favorite thing about my campus is the people. From day one, my team welcomed me with open arms. They have continuously provided me with the support and resources to help me become the best teacher I can be for my students.
