At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Brad Deitzen, who teaches government and economics at Founders Classical Academy – Lewisville.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and graduated from Hillsdale College with a degree in political science. After completing a teaching apprenticeship, I joined ResponsiveEd in 2013 as a fifth-grade teacher and have since transitioned to teaching high school government and economics at Founders Classical Academy – Lewisville.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I was inspired to become an educator after studying education policy in college. I quickly realized that our children are the key to the future, and I wanted to help educate the next generation of students and share my love and knowledge with them.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me plenty of lessons on humility and that learning can be fun. All it takes is to approach it from a different perspective.
What are you most proud of about your time with Founders Classical Academy – Lewisville?
I am most proud of the civic education program I developed with our Headmaster, Mr. Caros. The Liberty and Learning Fellowship taught me a lot and provided an incredible opportunity for meaningful discussion between students, parents, and the community.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
My favorite thing about the organization is the community. From day one, the faculty and staff have made Lewisville feel like home for my family, and sharing my experiences with my wife, who is also an FCA Lewisville staff member, has been so rewarding.
