In celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, we spoke with our Premier High School – Midland, Dayton, and Mesquite, as well as TexasWorks – Mesquite about their CTE offering in drone piloting.

Students in these drone programs work toward earning their commercial drone pilot license and learn how to apply this certification in various industries. Upon completion, participants receive their drone pilot license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), opening the door to careers in drone operation, aerial technology, and more.

Premier High School – Midland drone program students recently showcased their expertise at the 2024 Kelly Heritage Foundation Regional Drone Competition, earning an impressive six awards, including three first-place trophies for overall performance, Drone Genius (Knowledge-Based), and VLS Pilot Performance. “Going to the drone competition was such a fun and unique opportunity for our students,” said campus CTE teacher and Drone Coach Stephanie Young. “I am so proud of their hard work before and during the competition. It was an incredible experience, and we cannot wait for this year’s competition.”

Through programs like these, Premier High Schools and TexasWorks empower students with the skills and certifications needed to succeed in high-demand careers.

Why Career and Technical Education (CTE)? Students can begin training for a career while earning their diploma. CTE gives students the skills and training to further their education and pursue meaningful careers in high-demand professions.
