At ResponsiveEd, the overwhelming success of our students and Alumni is what sets us apart. One such alum is our Premier High School – Edinburg (Career & Technology Center) alum and current member of the inaugural Alumni Ambassador Fellowship (AAF) class for the Texas Public Charter Schools Association (TPCSA) Joshua Figarola.
While at Premier High School, Joshua discovered his passion for medicine by enrolling in the campus career and technical education (CTE) pharmacy technician certification program. After graduating in 2023, he got accepted into the biomedical science program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Not long after, he got invited to join a two-week research trip to Iceland. The experience offered him a unique opportunity for hands-on research and to work closely with scientists at the University of Iceland and DeCODE Genetics, one of the world’s leading genetics research facilities.
Additionally, Joshua could apply the skills he learned at Premier in a real-world setting and gain insights from leading experts in the field. Alongside his peers, he toured the university hospital, observed cutting-edge research techniques, and contributed to ongoing studies. His hard work and dedication during this research trip earned him an invitation to next year’s research trip to London and Paris.
Joshua’s journey is a testament to the impact of dedicated educational programs and the opportunities he received at Premier High School and continues to uphold in his time with the TPCSA Alumni Ambassadors Fellowship.
