CORINTH, Texas – July 23, 2024 – Founders Classical Academy – Corinth, a ResponsiveEd tuition-free public charter school serving grades K-12, cheer team showcased their excellence and spirit at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Cheer Conference. The team made a remarkable impression, earning the coveted Banana Award for their outstanding spirit, respect, and integrity. In a competition with 360 cheerleaders, this recognition was a significant achievement.
The varsity team also won the prestigious Spirit Stick on the first day, setting the tone for a successful event. Their leadership and sportsmanship were evident as other squads unanimously nominated the team for the True Leadership Award. The cheerleaders demonstrated exceptional character by cleaning up messes, assisting smaller and struggling cheerleaders, and consistently adhering to the rules.
During the Champion Competition, the team’s hard work and dedication paid off with an impressive haul of accolades: three first-place trophies, one second-place trophy, and four blue superior ribbons. They also won the Banana Award, earning an invitation to the UCA Leadership Banquet in November.
“The most important and coveted award of the week, given to only one squad, is the UCA Banana Award,” said campus cheer coach, Coach Erin Ouellette. “This is the 50th year UCA has had the Banana Award and it goes to the squad that shows true leadership, kindness, integrity, and school spirit.”
A highlight of the occasion was the selection of eight students to try out for the All-American Cheer Squad, a prestigious opportunity to perform in locations such as London, Rome, and Hawaii. The campus proudly announced that five of its students made the squad: Rylie Braswell, Makena Carter, Liam Ouellette, Addison Joaquin, and Tyco Saucedo.
In the Pin it Forward event, which recognizes standout leaders from each squad, four campus cheerleaders were honored, further showcasing the exceptional talent and leadership within the team.
Founders Classical Academy – Corinth expressed gratitude to the UCA staff for their support and for challenging the cheer team to reach new heights. The Corinth campus also extended a special thank you to Coach Erin Ouellette, whose dedication and leadership they say have been instrumental in building a team with a solid character foundation.
“We are privileged to have Coach Ouellette to guide our students in virtue and moral excellence,” said Headmaster Brooks McDonald. “She teaches our cheer team to give their all both in competition and in kindness.”
