At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.

This week, we sat down with Chasity Mooney, who teaches fifth grade at Plainview Classical Academy.

Plainview Classical Academy Teacher Chasity Mooney

Tell Us About Yourself

I have lived in Plainview for over 21 years and graduated from Wayland Baptist University, where I studied interdisciplinary studies and teaching. This year marks my tenth year teaching in Plainview. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2023 and teach fifth grade at Plainview Classical Academy.

What inspired you to become an educator?

I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. My passion for teaching started in kindergarten when I’d line up my stuffed animals and spend hours teaching them. As a teenager, I taught sign language to a child who struggled to communicate. Seeing the joy in his eyes when he was able to express himself is a moment I’ll never forget.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

They have shown me the great value of respecting others and that these small acts of kindness brighten our community. They also remind me to remain curious, never stop learning, and to slow down and enjoy life’s moments.

What are you most proud of about your time with Plainview Classical Academy?

I am most proud of the time spent immersing myself in all subjects. I look forward to teaching every subject through a classical curriculum, emphasizing everything good and true.

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

I have always enjoyed challenges and using my skills to help others solve problems. Working for ResponsiveEd has been incredibly rewarding because of the strong support they provide faculty and staff through resources and training.
