At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Laura Dominguez, who teaches English at Premier High School – El Paso (Eastpointe).
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and joined ResponsiveEd in 2011, where I teach English at Premier High School – El Paso (Eastpointe). In 2014, I was recognized as Teacher of the Year by ResponsiveEd. Additionally, I am a member of the teacher mentor program at my campus.
What inspired you to become an educator?
My passion for teaching has revolved around wanting to help create social change. I have always believed that education is the key to a successful future, and witnessing students overcoming challenges and making a difference in their communities over the years has only reinforced my passion for teaching.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have shown me the importance of celebrating each student’s unique personality and talents. Because of them, I get reminded that there is no right or wrong way to learn. They encourage me to view situations from a new perspective and remind me of the importance of being patient and understanding towards others.
What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – El Paso (Eastpointe)?
I am honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with one of my former students. She is currently a staff member at the campus and has shared that my encouragement inspired her to pursue a career as an English teacher. Aside from working at the campus and attending college, she is a member of the student cohort Alumni Ambassador Fellowship, where she represents Texas public charter schools. It is incredibly fulfilling to witness how I’ve impacted her journey of dedication to education and service to our community.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I love working for ResponsiveEd because I have seen firsthand how they have positively impacted students’ lives. I am also grateful to work for an organization that allows me to prioritize my family and continue to make a difference in the lives of my students.
