At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with Shanetha Williamson, who teaches math at Premier High School – Fort Worth.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, and received my bachelor’s in mathematics and a minor in education from the University of Mobile. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2021 and teach mathematics at Premier High School – Fort Worth.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I have always loved learning, but my mother, an early childhood educator, was the one who inspired and encouraged me to pursue it as a career. I decided to teach math because I have seen how often people struggled and developed a strong dislike for the subject. Since becoming a teacher, I’ve made it my mission to help change people’s perspectives on math.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me that learning looks different for everyone. This lesson has forced me to be more creative and find new ways to help my students find success while also making learning fun and engaging. Additionally, I have learned that being authentic sets a good example for my students and often encourages them to be more confident in the classroom.
What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – Fort Worth.
I am most proud of cultivating positive relationships with my students and helping them blossom into better mathematicians. When I first started, students avoided my room because they disliked math. Now, I have classes full of students eager to learn more.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
I enjoy working in a non-traditional school setting. Working for ResponsiveEd has allowed me to grow as an educator and have the freedom to develop and teach lessons that represent my teaching style.
