Tell Us About Yourself
I was born in Mississippi but grew up in San Antonio, Texas. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Langston University in Oklahoma and my master’s degree in Health & Human Performance from the University of the Southwest in New Mexico. Before joining ResponsiveEd in 2023, I worked as a college and career advocate, where I helped high school students prepare for their futures by teaching them job skills, interview techniques, and how to apply for jobs. Now, as a physical education teacher at Founders Classical Academy – Bastrop, I enjoy encouraging my students to stay active and build healthy habits.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I’ve wanted to be a coach and educator ever since my days as a high school basketball player. I was fortunate to have incredible coaches, mentors, and motivators who inspired and guided me throughout high school and college. Now, my goal is to have that same positive impact on my students. In my class, I focus not only on sports but also on teaching life lessons that students can carry with them after they leave the classroom.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me the importance of patience. Working with children ages five to 13 brings a new set of challenges and rewards every day. Each age group is unique, and adapting to their different needs has helped me grow as both an educator and a person.
What are you most proud of about your time with Founders Classical Academy – Bastrop?
Throughout my time with ResponsiveEd, I’ve learned so much about classical education, something I wasn’t familiar with before coming here. Having previously worked only in public schools, this experience has broadened my understanding of teaching and helped me grow both professionally and personally.
