At ResponsiveEd, we are focused not only on the success of our students but on the achievements and growth of our talented educators leading the way. As we assemble the best collection of talent around to inspire and provide hope for students, we are honored to spotlight those already making a difference in the lives of our students across the district.
This week, we sat down with David Jolliff, who teaches ninth through twelfth grade at Premier High School – Waco.
Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Waco, Texas, and am a graduate of Baylor University. I spent several years living in different places across the country, including California and Massachusetts, before moving back to Texas. I joined ResponsiveEd in 2007 and teach ninth through twelfth grade at Premier High School – Waco.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I knew I wanted to become a teacher during my time working at a hospital. That job allowed me to work with teenagers, and I quickly realized I had a passion for working with children and wanted to help them achieve their goals.
What are some things that your students have taught you?
My students have taught me that our differences are what make us unique. Every year, I look forward to meeting new students and learning more about their skills, interests, and personalities.
What are you most proud of about your time with Premier High School – Waco?
I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to make a small impact on the lives of so many young people.
What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?
The people are the reason I love coming to work every day. Everyone encourages one another and works together to build a strong campus community. Because of everyone’s hard work and dedication, we can create a space where all students can succeed.
What is a memorable moment you can share from the classroom?
I had a student who was struggling with a specific math lesson. We sat down together to work through the material and find a style of learning that worked best for her. Years later, the student and her mother recognized me at a gas station in a different town and came over to tell me how I had made a difference in her life.
