Tell Us About Yourself

I was born and raised in Huntsville, Texas, and received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Phoenix. I joined ResponsiveEd this fall and teach first grade at Ignite Community School – Huntsville.

What inspired you to become an educator?

As a child, I always dreamed of being a nurse and a teacher. After teaching Pre-K, I decided to transition into the medical field, where I worked as a medical assistant for over 20 years. Though I loved my job, I felt like something was missing. I realized I still had a passion for teaching and returned to the classroom excited to support students and help them succeed.

What are some things that your students have taught you?

My classes often remind me that each student is unique and has their own set of skills. Their different personalities and strengths encourage me to get to know them on an individual level and find new ways to cater to each child’s learning style.

What are you most proud of about your time with Ignite Community School – Huntsville?

I am most proud to be a part of a team that supports one another. When you start a new role, you are unsure if it will be the right fit for you, but my co-workers and leadership were there to listen and offer their full support. Because of them, I have become more confident as a teacher and know that my team will always have my back!

What do you like most about being an educator for your campus?

What I like the most about working for ResponsiveEd is the administration and staff. Our administrators support every staff member and are always looking for ways to offer encouragement and resources to help us all succeed.
