Two eighth-grade students from Garland Classical Academy, a ResponsiveEd school, earn junior internship positions after a visit from State Representative Victoria Neave. Kelsey Chamberlain and Julian Brown Griffin will be assisting the staff at Texas House District 107 a few nights a week after impressing Neave with poems they recited during her visit to the school on Monday, March 26.
Neave talked to the nearly 300 elementary and middle school students about being raised in a working-class family, earning her law degree, running a political campaign, and working for the state government. They performed mock trials and simulated court cases as attorneys, judge, and jury.
“She truly inspired our students, many of which come from working-class families and need role models to remind them that anything is possible,” says Garland Classical Academy campus Director Tiffany Linwood. “I’m excited for Julian and Kelsey’s passion to continue learning about local government and thankful to Representative Neave for giving them this opportunity within her office.”
Victoria Neave represents Texas House District 107, which includes parts of Dallas, Mesquite, and Garland. She serves on the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence and the House Committee on County Affairs.
