Launched a year ago with the aid of an $800,000 grant from the Texas Education Agency, Premier High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center of Edinburg is one of six Premier High Schools ResponsiveEd has started in the Rio Grande Valley in the past 15 years.

In celebration of its first-year anniversary, the school is hosting a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at the campus located at 4701 South Sugar Rd., Edinburg, TX 78539.

Campus Director Nelda Garza believes the school gives students another choice that can help them on their way after graduation.

“We want our students to be ready for college and careers so that they can successfully compete in our ever-changing global society. Students often come to us lacking confidence in their ability to succeed. By offering them Career and Technical Education coupled with Premier’s student-focused academic program, students gain the experience and tools they need to have confidence in their future,” said Mrs. Garza.

In its first year, 29 students graduated from the school, and 10 students have completed a Certified Nurse Assistant Program. The school currently offers CTE career clusters in Health Science; Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security; Arts, Audiovisual Technology and Communications; and Business, Management, and Finance.

Premier High Schools are Responsive Education Solutions (ResponsiveEd) public charter schools. With over 70 schools in the state of Texas, ResponsiveEd’s Rio Grande Valley schools in Brownsville, San Juan, Pharr, Mission, Palmview, and Edinburg currently serve more than 1,200 students.  In 15 years, the Premier High School model has graduated more than 11,000 students, improving the quality of life for their families and making a difference in the economy of the South Texas region.
