ResponsiveEd 180 Teacher Candidate Brittany Brown

What initially drew you to the ResponsiveEd180 Educator Preparation Program, and how did it meet your expectations as a working adult seeking teacher certification?

I never planned on becoming an educator; however, once I started teaching, I knew immediately it was something I wanted to pursue, but I struggled with how to balance certification requirements while working full-time. When my headmaster told me about this program, I knew I wanted to try it.. Being a teacher at a Founders Classical Academy campus, the program worked well with my schedule, and I was able to take time off when needed to complete program requirements while still being paid. The workload was challenging to balance as a full-time teacher, but the program offered flexibility and support to help me meet requirements without sacrificing the quality of my teaching.

Can you describe how the blended format, including online and in-person training, provided the flexibility you needed to complete the program?

They have online classes during the week after work hours, which made it possible for me to stay fully engaged without the stress of commuting. The in-person classes on Saturdays made it so people who work during the week have time to come in person and still have the opportunity to collaborate with peers.

How did the cohort model, mentor support, and coaching elements of the program contribute to your success and overall experience?

This program is very challenging, but the cohort model provided us not just with people to bounce ideas off of but emotional support as well. Everyone is going through the same struggles, and the bond you form because of that pushes you to keep persevering. The mentors are there to help you, whether it is applying their feedback, explaining something you don’t understand, or just cheering you on. You give lessons in front of them, and they give you feedback to coach you to be the best teacher you can be.

What was the most significant benefit or skill you gained from the program, and how has it impacted your career as a certified Texas teacher?

The most valuable benefit was the personalized feedback from mentors. You don’t know what you don’t know, and their observations helped me recognize areas for improvement and refine my teaching practice. I also gained a strong professional network. The structure of the program encourages collaboration, and the connections I formed with my cohort will last long after the program. Now, if I ever need advice or a fresh perspective, I know I have colleagues I can reach out to.

Would you recommend the ResponsiveEd180 program to other aspiring teachers, especially working adults, and if so, what key advice would you offer them?

I would definitely recommend this program to other aspiring teachers. It doesn’t just provide you with a certification; it teaches you how to educate and meet the needs of every student. You form lifelong connections with the others in your cohort and always have your mentors’ support, even after the program ends. My advice would be to stay organized and create a plan to meet deadlines, since balancing the program with full-time teaching can be demanding.

Anything else you’d like to share about your experience?

I’m very thankful for this program. It financially made getting certified possible, and without it, I’m not sure I would have been able to become certified.
