ResponsiveEd 180 Teacher Candidate Bree Anna Chrisman

What initially drew you to the ResponsiveEd180 Educator Preparation Program, and how did it meet your expectations as a working adult seeking teacher certification?

My headmaster recommended the program for teachers who have not yet received a teacher’s certification. Thus far, it has provided more than I expected with training, testing, and overall support.

Can you describe how the blended format, including online and in-person training, provided the flexibility you needed to complete the program?

It was very accommodating of my working schedule. Providing a way to still make time during the week, as well as the weekend, was helpful in fitting in all classes and deadlines.

How did the cohort model, mentor support, and coaching elements of the program contribute to your success and overall experience?

I appreciated the staff’s openness, understanding, patience, flexibility, and guidance throughout the program. Meeting with cohort members was helpful in sharing ideas and learning about different teaching styles in group work. Overall, it has helped me grow as a teacher. Given the numerous connections I’ve made with other teachers and the positive feedback from program leaders, I’ve gained increased confidence as an educator.

What was the most significant benefit or skill you gained from the program, and how has it impacted your career as a certified Texas teacher?

The teaching techniques from Teach Like a Champion (TLAC) have helped me challenge my students appropriately while also maintaining classroom management. Being able to practice with the other cohort members and receiving feedback helped bring confidence when I implemented them in the classroom.

Would you recommend the ResponsiveEd180 program to other aspiring teachers, especially working adults, and if so, what key advice would you offer them?

I would recommend the program to other teachers. The insight gained is something valuable for any future educator. I would say that it isn’t for the faint-hearted, given the work required to complete the program. However, the end goal is worth the effort, and the program leaders work with you to the best of their ability. It’s well worth all the work put in! Your future classroom is waiting!

Anything else you’d like to share about your experience?

The connections I made with other future teachers in the cohort were what I enjoyed most about the program. We all have a different way of teaching, with some good insights. It truly shows how all teachers work together to help all students succeed.
