Premier High School – Lubbock Student Wins Regional Art Competition, Brings $1,000 Donation to Campus

ResponsiveEd and Premier High School – Lubbock are proud to announce that ninth-grade student Jiovanna Barrera has been named the winner of the Beautiful Mind on Fire (B.M.O.F.) Art Competition, hosted by J&B Coffee. The competition showcases talented student artists from high schools across the Lubbock area while giving them a platform to raise awareness for causes they are passionate about. Through her artwork, Jiovanna is advocating for dyslexia awareness and short-term memory loss.

As part of her achievement, Premier High School – Lubbock will receive a $1,000 donation on Jiovanna’s behalf. The funds will be used to support the campus’s art and special education programs, further expanding creative and inclusive learning opportunities for students. The donation will be officially presented during a community celebration event on Friday, February 6, at J&B Coffee in Lubbock. Jiovanna’s artwork will also be featured on event merchandise, allowing attendees to take home a piece inspired by her creativity while supporting a great cause.

“Jiovanna’s achievement speaks not only to her artistic talent, but also to her empathy and desire to make a difference,” said Iris Whalin, Assistant Campus Director at Premier High School – Lubbock. “We are incredibly proud of her for using her creativity to spark important conversations and for bringing this meaningful support back to our campus and our students.”
