Omar Armenteros, an alum of Premier High School – El Paso (Eastpointe), has dreamed of becoming a pilot for as long as he can remember. His journey to success took off when he enrolled at the El Paso campus as a sophomore, looking for an alternative to the traditional school model. He was excited to enroll at a school where he could work at a pace that best suited him while also having the opportunity to work towards his personal goals.
During his time at Premier, Omar not only thrived academically but also became an active member of the campus community. He joined several school clubs, including Mi Amigos, a club led by teacher Brenda Alacantar that serves as an additional resource for ESL students on campus. Reflecting on his time at the school, Omar credits his success to the teachers and Premier’s flexible scheduling, which helped him thrive in the classroom and focus on reaching his personal goals. 
“I would not be where I am today without the help and support of my teachers at Premier,” said Armenteros. “Because of their support, I could focus on my studies without any distractions and receive my diploma sooner than expected.”
After graduating in December 2023, Omar set his sights on his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. Wasting no time, he enrolled at ViveVolando, a flight school in his hometown of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, where he began the rigorous training needed to earn his wings. Within six months, after completing numerous flight hours and medical and emergency response training, Omar received his private pilot’s license. With his private license, he plans to eventually earn his commercial flying license and fly for a major airline.
But Omar’s ambition doesn’t stop there. Alongside his aviation training, he’s also pursuing a political science and public administration degree through UTEL, an online university based in Mexico.
Omar’s journey from student to licensed pilot is a reminder that success doesn’t always follow a traditional path. As he continues to achieve his goals, he’s excited to see where life will take him and feels confident about the future, thanks to the foundation he built at Premier High School.
