Ignite Community School – Mainland, a public, tuition-free PreK-8 charter school, celebrated its 25th anniversary with the community on April 25, a date the City of La Marque has named “Ignite Community School Day.” Students, families, and school officials participated in the celebration alongside local officials, including Mayor Keith Bell, Councilwoman Kimberley Yancy, and Commissioners Steven Holmes and Nakisha Bell.
Since opening, Ignite Community School – Mainland, formerly Mainland Preparatory Classical Academy, has provided a rigorous curriculum rooted in its community and character development. Transitioning to Ignite Community School in 2023 emphasized its college preparatory learning environment, promoting achievement and prioritizing family and community engagement.
“We are so proud of all our school community has achieved over the years,” said Campus Director Andre Mathews. “Having been a part of nearly a decade of its history, I can confidently say the future at Ignite Community School – Mainland is bright. It is with great honor that we have this opportunity to reflect on over two decades of academic excellence with proud anticipation of all the greatness ahead.”
Ignite Community School’s approach to education utilizes a flexible learning environment intending to foster a sense of community and encourage interpersonal skills, problem-solving, goal-setting, creativity, autonomy, and self-accountability. As a charter school, it is tuition-free, and any student is eligible to attend. The school’s curriculum is aligned with state standards while promoting self-confidence and student empowerment.
“It is a tremendous honor to say that we’ve been a part of the La Marque community for the past 25 years,” said Regional Director Dr. Eric Davis. “This community has supported us, grown with us, and most importantly, trusted us with their scholar’s education through the years, and we do not take that for granted.”
