A unique aspect of Premier High School is our Career and Technical Education (CTE) options. Through these options, students receive job training, have opportunities to participate in paid or unpaid internships, receive industry-recognized certifications, and begin meaningful careers after high school. In honor of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, we talked to our Premier High School – Lubbock (Briercroft), Houston (Gallery Furniture North), and Austin (South) about their CTE offerings in the medical field.

The campus Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) programs prepare students to become future health professionals who support physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other medical providers in different specialties. Throughout the program, students learn to obtain and record health histories and vital signs and, in some cases, may test vision, draw blood, and perform basic laboratory procedures. Upon completion, program participants can receive an industry-recognized certification as medical assistants.

The Medical Assistant program allows students to explore the medical field and provides them with the academic and technical skills needed to enter the workforce upon graduation,” said Premier High School – Lubbock (Briercroft) CMA Instructor Nancy Early. “Thanks to CTE programs like this one, our students can take full advantage of completing the course in a year and graduate with a high school diploma and certificate.”

Why Career and Technical Education (CTE)? Students can begin training for a career while earning their diploma. CTE gives students the skills and training to further their education and pursue meaningful careers in high-demand professions.
