Building a college resume starts before high school. While academic performance is one of the top factors in determining college acceptance and scholarships, life experience plays a significant role as well. Here is a Middle School college preparation checklist with a few things students can do to prepare.
Read, read, read! It helps improve students’ vocabulary, grammar, and background knowledge.
Consider getting a part-time job. It can help with letters of recommendation, demonstrate a good work ethic, and help begin saving for college. Possible ideas: yard work, babysitting, walking dogs.
Join extracurricular activities: sports, music, and hobbies.
Volunteer. It helps with scholarships and college admissions.
