Student Garridee Solomon is a powerful example of what can happen when students are given the flexibility, support, and encouragement to thrive. As a freshman at the early college high school, Garridee is already accomplishing what many young writers only dream of: becoming a published author.
She has had a passion for art and storytelling for as long as she can remember, often spending time creating original characters and imagining the stories behind them. That creativity eventually laid the foundation for her original story, Seven Beasts. What began as a simple character sketch grew into a full storytelling project that developed over several years.

Garridee began developing her story during middle school, a time she describes as personally and academically challenging. Rather than letting those experiences hold her back, she turned to art and writing as a means of outlet. Through storytelling, she found a way to express herself, process her experiences, and ultimately create something meaningful.
After transferring to iSchool High at University Park in seventh grade, Garridee found an environment that supported both her academic and creative growth. The school’s flexible learning model allowed her to focus on her goals while continuing to develop her writing and artistic skills. Over three years, she storyboarded, drafted, wrote, and even illustrated the cover for Seven Beasts herself before publishing the book independently.
“I have always been a creative person, so naturally, I want to share that with the world,” Garridee said. “Attending iSchool High has allowed me to pursue my passions while also working toward graduation.”
